Litter louts
What do you do when you see someone hurl a piece of rubbish on to the pavement?
Do you stop them and politely ask them to pick up the discarded bit of rubbish and then watch them place it in a bin or do you just shake your head, tut and walk on.
I think most of us would take the second option. Not because we agree with people littering our streets with rubbish but because it's the safer option and means you won't have a load of abuse hurled at you or perhaps something even worse.
I have to admit that I have just taken the safe option after watching someone at the bus stops outside Gazette House discard their sandwitch wrapper on the pavement. I could have said something and wanted to but, in the end I just accepted it and carried on with my business.
The amount of rubbish strewn about by the bus stops in Bakers Road is quite frankly a disgrace and a complete blight on the town and, there are many other areas across the borough which are equally as bad.
I am not really sure what impression anyone arriving in Uxbridge by bus must get of the town - but it's not a pretty one!
Infact, the whole location of the bus station and the chaos it continually causes leaves a lot to be desired - but that's another story for another day.
With the forthcoming smoking ban the problem of litter on our streets is likely to increase dramatically as dog ends pile up on our pavements.
So what is the answer. Well fining people for dropping litter doesn't seem to work and I really can't recall I single instance where someone has been prosecuted.
Perhaps we should all gang up on the litter louts as it looks like the only way to stop this defacing of our streets.

Adrian. Perhaps you and your staff could wear Gazette t-shirts, show how proud you are of Uxbridge and make a genuine difference by spending an hour or two picking up the litter? Even if it stops one person dropping a sandwich wrapper in the future then it will have been worth it. People should be proud of where they live and work and not treat it like a litter bin.

I think you were wise not to tackle the sandwitch wrapper dropper.
Sandwitches are dangerous magical beings, even worse than rockwithes and airwitches, so if someone had one in a wrapper they must be double hard!
